Folklore and Historical Museum of Feres
Folklore and Historical Museum of Feres
The Folklore and History Museum of Feres is housed in a 19th century house of particular historical value, which is the only surviving Greek house of the Ottoman period. In its premises there are about 2,000 objects on the subject of everyday life and life in the area of Feres. Particular emphasis is placed on the presentation of items relating to traditional professions (carpenter, weaver, barber, blacksmith, butcher, shoemaker, shoemaker, shoemaker), as well as household tools (such as furniture, cooking utensils, irons, water mills, stone mortars).
The collection is the work of Nikolaos Gotsi. The large number of bells and especially the colourful, traditional women's costumes of the villages of the region stand out. At the same time, the archival material (old books, photographs, public and school documents) provides additional information about the living conditions of the inhabitants, many of whom were refugees who had come from Eastern Thrace and Asia Minor.
