Cappadocian Folk Museum
Cappadocian Folk Museum
The Folklore Museum of the Cappadocian Association of Evros is housed in a space of 150 sq.m. in the basement of the Cappadocian Home, at 1 Mitropoulou Street. It was inaugurated in 2008, with the aim of transporting the visitor to the atmosphere of life in the villages of Cappadocia. The dimensions of the space and the presentation of the exhibits are representational, based on the testimonies of people who had come from Cappadocia and historical records.
Through more than 1,000 objects, the visitor comes into contact with the everyday life of the inhabitants, domestic life and outdoor work. Most of them have been collected from donations and some are relics brought by the refugees from their homes, but also by the Association itself, during its excursions to the villages of Cappadocia. Also on display are books, jewellery, small furniture, photographs and old pictures that were rescued by the refugees, despite the adverse conditions they faced in leaving their homes, and taken to the region that received them and today honours them with the important work of the Cappadocian Association.
