Ethnological Museum of Thrace

The Ethnological Museum of Thrace started its operation in 2002 in Alexandroupolis, with the aim of preserving historical memory and the study, research and promotion of Thracian culture. It is housed in a stone neoclassical building of 1899, at 63, 14th May Street, playing the role of a place of acquaintance with Thracian culture through the collected material and the studies and research it conducts.

The Museum's collection includes more than 5,000 objects, as well as archival photographic material, records and 3,700 books. There are 500 objects available to the public, which help visitors to get in touch with the history and tradition of the area from the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

The presentation is divided into two main areas. The first traces the evolution of Thracian culture over time, while the second focuses on the timeless cycle of agricultural work, the cycle of sowing and harvesting.

In particular, the two areas of the Museum (ground floor and basement) present thematically the cult, nutrition, bronze and clay household objects, weaving, cultivation and clothing.
