Bath at the Kokkina Vrachia beach
Bath at the Kokkina Vrachia beach
The coastline of Evros, especially on the coast west of Alexandroupolis, may offer great spots for swimming and sunbathing, with organised beaches and large sandy areas available to holidaymakers, but there is a small coastal strip that stands out for its particular natural beauty. "Kokkina Vrachia", a few kilometres from the town (about five to ten minutes by car) towards Nea Chili, is not an ordinary beach.
The relatively difficult access is compensated by the natural beauty of the coast, composed of the reddish rocks that give it its name, the -rare for a beach in Evrica- pebbles that cover the area in front of the water, the stunning view of the sea horizon, especially in the evening hours with the wonderful sunset. The rocks, which at one point present a composition that reaches up to ten meters, carved by the Thracian Sea, are breathtaking with their formations and the ever-changing liquid sculptures that they make with the wave as it crashes against them.
The "Red Rocks" and the small bays that surround them, apart from the clear waters that are ideal for cooling off and swimming, provide an ideal backdrop for photographs, both on their surface and as part of the overall natural landscape. And, of course, although this is a fairly dangerous occupation, some daredevils do not hesitate to take dives off the rocks. In any case, the natural artwork in the coastal zone of the area offers a unique experience to the visitor, even if it is a walk without the prospect of a summer bath, in any season, as the colours change through the year and give it different shades depending on when you are there.
