Beach of Makri

Makri is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the region. With a variety of choices in accommodation, beach bars, restaurants and tavernas with fresh fish from the open sea of the Thracian Sea, it hosts many holidaymakers and visitors from all over Thrace. The main attraction is its long beach, east of the harbour and along the two successive natural bays formed about 12 km from Alexandroupoli.

Its organized part can serve bathers for their basic needs of food, refreshments, sunbeds, umbrellas, but most of the beach is free for visitors. The beach is sandy, spreading over a length of about a kilometre and is comfortable despite the large number of visitors it receives in summer, while the shallow depth of the water on the beach makes it ideal for children. The beach of Makri ("Agios Georgios Beach") is accessible both by private means and by public transport.

A few meters from the beach there is the "Cave of Cyclops", a special natural monument that can be visited before, after, or during a swim, for a short break to explore and enjoy the view from the spot.
