Relaxing in urban parks

Although Alexandroupoli is a city that "breathes" and does not bother the resident or the visitor with the cramped feeling of concrete that characterizes other cities, it has several parks that function as relaxation and rejuvenation points within its urban fabric. For a short break in sightseeing, a stop to reorganize or a rest from activities, the manicured islands of greenery between buildings offer an ideal solution. If the Sports and Recreation Park in the Maistru Platanotopos, just outside the city, seems far away or there's not enough time to enjoy it, an urban park is always close by.

Apart from the area next to the Lighthouse, where anyway the relaxing mood is guaranteed and the walk is enjoyable, about half a kilometre further west there is the "Argo" Park, next to the sea, where the "Anatasis Delta Red Sculpture" has been set up. Continuing in the same direction, the Municipal Grove where the Scout Park is located, with a cafeteria and playground, is a large green area and is ideal for a walk next to the Municipal Stadium, while a short distance away, behind the Archaeological Museum, is an open playground with a sports area. A little further north, the "Wooden Park" can delight the little ones and give their companions a rest.

In the heart of the city there is the Academy Park on Papanastasiou Street, the excellent Eastern Thrace Park on the homonymous street, while near Nea Paralia there is the Eleftheria Park with the "Victory of Samothrace" by sculptor Demosthenes Sotiroudi, in the same area where the "Christmas Park" is set up every year, with events and festive mood. In the north of the city, at the edge of the urban core, the Altinalmazis Park is a place that offers rest and play for children, but also hosts the Altinalmazis Theatre, which is a very important cultural cradle for the city, and there is a café in the area.
